NEEDS
The acronym NEEDS stands for Nonlinear Evolution Equations and Dynamical Systems and it is the name of a series of international meetings focused on the interdisciplinary field of nonlinear phenomena. Traditionally, it has devoted particular - albeit not exclusive - attention to the major progress in the understanding of nonlinear phenomena which has occurred over the last decades as a consequence of the discovery of many integrable models with applicative relevance. The nonlinear world has revealed a fascinating phenomenology requiring, for its description, the construction of novel mathematical tools, thereby boosting mathematical research into integrability theories.

NEEDS 2012 Programme con be found under Conference Schedule, on the right.
The XIXth edition of the NEEDS conference series will be held at the Orthodox Academy of Crete, in Kolymvari, Chania (Crete, Greece), from July 8 to July 15, 2012. We are delighted that NEEDS 2012 will be hosted again in Crete, where the first edition took place in the Summer 1980, and thirteen years after the last time it was held there. As the previous editions, the workshop will have an interdisciplinary character; it aims to bring together both experts and young researchers encouraging cross disciplinary interaction in the pleasant atmosphere of the Orthodox Academy of Crete.
The conference will focus on the following topics:
- Integrable systems (including quantum and discrete) and applications
- Dynamical systems: Hamiltonian systems and dynamics in the complex domain
- Nonlinear waves, soliton equations and applications
- Nonlinear ODEs including Painleve' equations and isomonodromic deformations
- Symmetries and perturbative methods in the classification of integrable PDEs
- Infinite dimensional Lie algebras and integrable systems
- Orthogonal polynomials, random matrix theory
- MW1: Solitary waves in applications (coordinator: Mark Ablowitz)
- MW2: Tropical geometry and ultradiscrete integrable systems (coordinator: Rei Inoue)
- MW3: Cluster algebras and integrability (coordinator: Michael Shapiro)
- MW4: Dispersive Shock Waves: mathematical and physical aspects (coordinator: Stefano Trillo)

Nonlinear Evolution Equations and Dynamical Systems 2009
May 16, 2009 – May 23, 2009Transfer schedules from Olbia and Alghero Airports to the Hotel will be announced shortly.
A new edition of the NEEDS conferences will be held at Hotel Relax Torreruja, Isola Rossa, Comune di Trinita' d'Agultu e Vignola (OT), on the north coast of Sardinia, Italy, from Saturday 16th May (arrival day) until Saturday 23th May (departure day) 2009.
As the previous editions, the workshop will have an interdisciplinary character; it aims to bring together both experts and young researchers encouraging cross disciplinary interaction in the pleasant atmosphere of Isola Rossa village.
The conference will focus on the following topics:
- Integrable and chaotic dynamical systems
- Analytic, algebraic and geometric aspects of Integrable Systems
- Mathematical methods in Quantum Mechanics
- Nonlinear phenomena and applications
As a novelty to this year edition, aside from the general program there will be four mini-workshops on selected topics.
